Our Glenda Spooner Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre, in Somerset, is due to kick off its summer holiday activities with a teddy bears’ picnic on 30th July. The centre has planned events to suit all the family, hosting two hobby horse events on 13th and 23rd August – with tickets already selling fast – and farm tours and crafting activities on 6th and 20th August. As a finale, a gala on 27th August will feature the most popular activities from the all the preceding fun days. Visitors to the farm will also be able to meet lots of horses and ponies, including the most recent arrival – adorable Shetland foal Pam.
Glenda Spooner Farm’s Visitor Centre Officer, Laura Oliver, said:
“We’re really looking forward to our summer of fun kicking off on Wednesday, 30th July – our teddy bears’ picnic will be a great family-friendly day out. We’ve got lots of teddy-based games planned as well as a ‘Best Dressed Bear’ competition, so children can bring along their favourite bear to join in the fun. A delicious packed lunch is included with children’s tickets.
“With hobby horses being so popular now we’re anticipating a great turnout for our events on 13th and 23rd August, so I’d encourage anyone wanting to take part to book their space quickly! The first day will be more relaxed, with Pony Club-inspired games plus jousting, a fancy dress class, and a ‘have a go’ jump corner. The second day will be more competitive, with multiple height classes, pairs, a relay race, and a big group race to top it all off.
“For those wanting something a little less energetic than our hobby horse days, we’re offering farm tours and crafting activities on 6th and 20th August. Last, but certainly not least, to wrap up our summer of fun we’ll be holding a gala on 27th August which will feature all the most popular activities from the previous events.”
Tickets for the teddy bears’ picnic (including lunch) and the hobby horse events should be booked in advance and are £10 each for children aged 5-17. Craft activities on 6th, 20th, and 27th August will be paid for on the day. Tickets for all events this summer can be booked via our website.
Throughout the summer holidays Glenda Spooner Farm is open to visitors from 11am-4pm on Wednesdays and weekends, as usual. Entry to the farm costs just £3 for adults and children aged 5-17; under 5s get in free. Dogs on leads are welcome and there are lots of walks available, from gentle to more challenging. The café is open 11am-4pm and offers refreshments from cakes and cream teas to a light lunch. Visits can be booked on Glenda Spooner Farm’s webpage.
