World Horse Welfare aims to put working equids higher up the agenda within the development sector.

We work with policymakers and decision-makers at all levels to recognise that enhancing equine welfare is intrinsically linked to improving standards of food security, ensuring environmental stability, improving global health, empowering communities and minimising the risk and prevalence of disease.

Working equids so often fall through the legislative gaps; our aim is to see working equids’ welfare improve through their inclusion in policies that are adequate and enforced.

Working at local and national government level we look for working equids to be included in state livestock programmes which do not usually extend to working equids. Internationally we work with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to develop international working equid standards and the UN to lobby for the inclusion of working equids into the 2030 agenda.
