Meet Just Ava

Ava is a pretty piebald mare with lots of character. Ava loves her groom and will usually come over in the field when called; she is always hoping for a scratch and to come in for a pamper. She will happily live with mares and geldings but likes her own space in the field and is always very bold with the other horses. If she ever needs fed, she is better being separated from her friends. Ava does like to do her own thing and doesn't get overly attached to her friends so would be more than happy left alone in a stable while her field mates were ridden. Ava has poor conformation and didn't cope with ridden work so is much happier as a companion. She generally behaves well for all her handling but will need a very confident and experienced handler out on loan to make sure she doesn't revert to old behaviours. Ava is good for the vet and farrier if she has a competent handler and a small bit of feed. She is an extremely good doer and must have a home on restricted grazing so is best suited to living with other ponies on the same management. Her groom has done lots of loading practice with her and she is happiest in a trailer with the partitions removed so she has more space. Important stuff

Just Ava can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Just Ava is not suitable to be worked.

History

Ava came into World Horse Welfare care in May 2025 with one other pony through our Help for Horse Owners support service.
